Types of Futon Mattresses

Just like standard mattresses, futon mattresses come in different types of material. The most common materials that you will find are as follows.

1. Cotton: It is one of the cost-friendly options to go for. The cotton mattress is bouncy and can be recycled. Cotton Futon mattresses are also easy to maintain and offer decent durability.

2. Wool: Wool mattresses are warmer than cotton mattresses. They offer a cozy feel and an elegant appeal. Wool mattresses are also more durable than cotton mattresses. But they are also a little more expensive.

3. Foam: If it comes to holding shape over time, foam mattresses are your one-stop solution. These mattresses can flatten and bend easily. In addition, the veins like memory foam ensure proper posture during sleep.

Tip

If you rarely use the futon mattress, cotton is fine as it provides decent comfort at an affordable price. At the same time, memory foam is best for users with posture issues. As for woolen, it's best suited for places with low temperatures. The natural insulation properties of wool will help to keep you warm.

Size of Futon Mattress

Futon mattresses come in various sizes: twin, twin XL, full, king, and queen. Before investing in a futon mattress, the most important thing you need to check is the room's dimensions. Undoubtedly, a king-size mattress is the most spacey and comfortable, but it needs a lot of space. It's not ideal if you have confined space in your room.

Thus, select your mattress according to the available space. However, make sure to get yourself a mattress that is at least 6 inches thick because "the thicker the mattress, the more comfortable it will be."

Tips

Twin mattresses, also known as small futon mattresses, are highly recommended if you plan to buy a mattress for a guest room or child's room.

60" wide and 80" long, the queen-size futon mattresses perfectly fit two adults.

King size futon mattresses come in 2 different types, such as eastern king and western king. Eastern king mattress is the widest mattress available in the market. Whereas the Western king mattress is the longest.

Weight

Not only size but weight too plays a prime role in how comfortable and durable the futon can be. Weight completely depends on the purpose you want to buy a futon for. For example, suppose you're going to use it for sleeping purposes. In that case, a lighter mattress will be the best choice whereas, the heavier mattress is an excellent choice if it is to be used in its couch form.

Similarly, you also have to pay attention to portability while choosing the mattress. A lighter mattress will be more portable than a heavier one.

Thickness

When selecting mattresses for futons, try going for a thickness of 8-10 inches. It's crucial for optimal comfort and sound sleep. Futon mattresses must range between 6-10 inches if you want a sound sleep. This will be more crucial if you want to use it regularly for sleeping purposes. Otherwise, the futon mattresses will keep on sliding, causing discomfort.

Tip

Purchasing futon grip strips can prevent it from sliding. Futon grip strips come in rubber and foam.
