Glideaway

Glideaway is a prominent designer and manufacturer of sleep devices founded in 1962 on steel bedding rail advancements. It is a family-owned business dedicated to providing value-based and creative sleep solutions to help everyone, everywhere, get a good night's sleep. The significance of rest, of course, cannot be overstated.

In the early 1900s, brothers Dave, Harry, and Niel Fredman emigrated to America and started selling groceries door to door in Collinsville, Illinois. The Fredman brothers went into furniture retail after selling a chair and sofa on consignment. The Fredman Bros. Furniture Co. expanded to 28 locations thereafter.

Annoyed by the market's wooden bed slats of shallow quality, Harry Fredman set out to find a more robust alternative: steel. The Fredman brothers founded the Glideaway Bed Carriage Mfg. Co. in 1962 and their first-ever bed frame rail was patented in 1964.  The first Glideaway steel products were made in Peoria in 1965, and the company's headquarters were transferred to St. Louis, Missouri, eleven years later.

Glideaway then started procuring high-performance recycled rail steel from Jersey Shore Steel, a carbon-neutral steel factory. Construction on Glideaway's current headquarters in Saint Louis County was finished in 1996. There are now over 130,000 square feet of office, factory, and warehouse space in their new facilities.  With a new focus on providing a broad range of sleep solutions, Glideaway expanded its product line to include memory foam mattresses and adjustable bases in 2008.

Glideaway further expanded to incorporate a new 111,000 square foot warehouse and distribution center in Hazelwood in 2020, with leadership transitioning to the fourth and fifth generations of the Fredman family. Adjustable bases, steel frames, mattresses, headboards, protectors, and pillows are among the current offerings.

The X-Brace center support system, which is engineered to be quickly installed and help support your Full, Queen, King, or California King sized bed, is one of their best-selling items. With the provided legs, you may vary the height of this support system from as low as 6 inches to as high as 15-1/2 inches. This one-of-a-kind center support system extends far beneath your bed, evenly supporting the box spring and mattress. The revolutionary X-System design provides a unique synergy that offers an extra layer of support to your bed and bedding, ensuring that your bedding investment is protected and, of course, you get a good night's sleep. This support's legs are easily adjusted to accommodate a wide range of heights, making it suitable for practically any bed design. There are hoards of raving fans for this product, and it is clear why.
